We believe in building support!
Mutual support groups are an important part of recovery. Mutual support groups are comprised of non-professionals that share a similar problem and voluntarily support one another on the road to recovery. These groups are not meant to provide formal treatment, but are part of a larger all-encompassing approach to recovery. There are support groups for those for people who have a substance use disorders; people with co-occurring disorders; and families, friends, and significant others. Often, people will only attend one type of mutual support or one support group affiliate. It is important to find a group and group affiliate that is "philosophically well matched" in order to increase active participation and benefits of a mutual support group. Your therapist should be knowledgeable of specifics related to local groups in your area in order to be a resource able to provide you informed referrals. |
